AGROMORPHOBIA

2001

A gory vegetarian melodrama

Agromorphobia_edited.jpg

Premiered at Centre du Théâtre d'Aujourd'hui - Montréal
August 1st to 25th, 2001

Tired of travelling the world, Flora accepts a strange invitation to a wellness retreat on a desert island. She’s sure it’ll do Soni and Sonia a world of good, as well as her friend, DuMaurier, a PI and heavy smoker.

But their host isn’t only interested in helping them with their bad habits - he has plans to turn them into half-human, half-vegetable creatures capable of feeding on themselves.

Agromorphobia is an unabashed parody of the Island of Doctor Moreau. Except in this version, humans are turned into fruits and vegetables...for the enjoyment of the audience, who are served vegetarian food during the performance.

SONIA
Oh! What have you done to my stomach? Give it back to me!

GRONOME
It’s still there. Big, round, and firm... like a watermelon.

SONIA
You bastard! Vegetarian!

GRONOME
Please. Say: autophagic agromorph.
